About the Director
Creativity…Excellence…Cross-cultural relevance… these words begin to describe Julie Riling’s passion to communicate through the arts. “We can only gain credibility through disciplined study, not settling for less than the best! Excellence inspires the people in our world.”
Through arts camps, missions’ training seminars, and touring dance companies Julie lectures and instructs dancers to begin where they are and stretch towards their personal best. Julie created dance pieces for PUSH Physical Theatre, Dance Mosaic Co. and international outreach teams through Messenger International. She recently earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Dance from the State University of New York at Brockport. Currently she teaches dance, improvisation and is the director/instructor for Lifestyle Fitness classes at The Studio, home of Dance Mosaic in Pittsford, NY. See the classes & workshop page. In addition she teaches at community arts programs, area dance studios and church dance programs. Annually, Julie teaches at Push Physical Theater’s Summer Apprentice Program. In 2005 she served as a dance instructor for ArtPeace’s Young Entrepreneur Program.
Push Physical Theatre performs her piece “Cherished” as they tour nationally. Julie has partnered with her husband Don in planting NewSong Church, a vibrant, arts-centered congregation in Rochester, NY. She is currently choreographing new works and serving in an arts missionary role on the NewSong team.
About Dance Mosaic
We believe that art is a powerful tool used to:
• Convey ........... messages of inspiration & hope
• Express ........... truth, affirmation & empowerment
• Encourage ....... spiritual and relational journeys
• Challenge ........ our personal and cultural paradigms
We believe that this generation benefits tremendously by the use of experiential, visual, and creative modes of communication. It is our goal as a company to share encouragement and positive messages of faith and hope through the use of the dynamic art form of dance. As artists we hope to make a positive difference in our community and world at large. Dance Mosaic creates new works for performance venues such as the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery’s Annual Clothesline Festival. The company rehearses the Studio in Pittsford, NY.
